Hack the law in Cambridge

A Weekend Full of Innovation, Creativity, and Inspiring Encounters.
On 23 June, Cambridge hosted the exciting Hack the Law event – an inspiring weekend of creativity, energy and innovative thinking. Together with Stanford CodeX and the Liquid Legal Institute, the Entrepreneurship Lab at King’s College Cambridge invited 120 hackers to solve problems from legal practice using the new technology of Large Language Models (LLM). The LTC was allowed to participate as a ‘non-paying sponsor’ with its own challenge from the public sector.
The Kickoff: Networking and Art Appreciation
Saturday evening began in a relaxed atmosphere with Garden Drinks, a wonderful opportunity to mingle and network with attendees. The AI artwork on display was particularly intriguing, not only to look at but also to engage in conversations about the intersection of technology and art. It was the perfect setting to exchange ideas and start networking with the potential for future collaborations.
A Day Full of Knowledge and Inspiration
On Sunday morning, the official programme kicked off at 9:00 a.m. and delivered what it promised. The Lightning Talks took participants on a journey through current issues and challenges in the field of legal tech. Professors and industry experts offered insights into their work and presented innovative approaches to how technology can improve the legal system. The talks by Prof. Dr. Felix Steffek and Jay Mandal were particular highlights, captivating the audience with profound knowledge and ideas. They stimulated reflection and discussion and provided valuable inspiration for the challenges ahead.
The Challenges: Creativity and Team Spirit in Focus
All day Sunday was dedicated to the challenges, which were tackled by the participants in teams. The creative minds collaborated, developed solutions and impressively demonstrated the versatility of the legal tech field. The atmosphere was electric – a mix of intense focus and productive collaboration, with each person contributing their strengths to bring the ideas to life.
The Highlight: Pitch Session in the Evening
In the evening, the eagerly awaited pitch session took place, marking the grand finale of the day. The teams presented their solutions with enthusiasm and conviction, and the judges awarded the most outstanding concept. It was inspiring to see the passion and innovation in each presentation and the commitment of all the participants.
